I haven’t bought anything new or second hand in a long time…

I haven’t bought anything new or second hand since October. It started just to save some more money, we have five birthdays in our family between October and February plus with Christmas and the desperate need to go abroad I thought it would be sensible to start saving a bit more. But it has since evolved into a bit of a self interest to see how long I can keep this going.

There have been times when I have been close to wanting to get something, going on to preloved sites to have a browse and see if I see the thing I am looking for but then I stop look to my wardrobe and most times I realise I have something in there that is similar anyways and the browsing then stops. I am doing this less and less now too. More wanting to read a book or do something else as opposed to scroll.

It has become a fun challenge now to try not to get tired of what I already have in my wardrobe and just wear my clothes and enjoy the fact I have been saving money.

The founder of Patagonia Yvon Chouinard said somewhere in this book “Let my people go surfing” that the best thing we can do is wear the clothes that we already have as a great way to help the environment.

I am going to carry on like this until I need clothes. When I do need to make a purchase again I am going to continue to opt for preloved. Yvon Chouinard also said that “buying used clothing and wearing it as long as possible is the most responsible thing you can do.” I think knowing that this is something that I can do which I want to do and it can be a help for the environment then I want to do it. I have been buying preloved clothes for years now for myself and my family. Many items we buy are new with tags not used by the previous owner. Not only are the clothes in great condition and a help for the environment it also means that if the boys accidentally rip the clothes it is not an issue as less money has been spent on it. It also means that I don’t need to go into clothes shops as I really don't like doing that.

No pressure but if you fancy having a go at buying preloved only or having a break from clothes buying altogether send me a message and I will gladly cheer you on.
