When The Clothes Horse met Her Majesty the Queen

At the beginning of September myself and one of our volunteers Fiona had the pleasure of attending an event hosted by Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF) where Her Majesty the Queen was going to be a guest.  Cornwall Community Foundation have supported and funded The Clothes Horse since we began over nine years ago and we are so grateful for them. It was therefore an honour to go to their event along with other organisations in the community in Newquay, Cornwall such as a Tiny tots, Knit and natter and Newquay foodbank.

Happy to speak to Her Majesty

The Queen spoke to each organisation and we were so happy to be able to share with Her Majesty what we do at The Clothes Horse, how we help families in need as well as refugees and those fleeing domestic violence through providing them with clothes as well as working with organisations whom support families.

We also spoke to Her Majesty how we have a premises in Newquay, Cornwall where families can come and choose clothes for their children including school uniform, shoes and coats. This allows families who want to help the environment and keep clothes in circulation instead of them ending up in landfill as well as support the work that we do with other organisations.

Her Majesty also had a look through some of the gorgeous new and vintage clothes that have been generously donated to us by the community. We took with us an array of clothes including beautiful dresses, tiny baby rompers, dungarees and new school uniform.

We decided to curtsey and I tried very hard to remember the whole event especially everything that the Queen was saying as she was very generous with her time and spoke to us for rather a long time which was lovely.

A curtsey

It felt such a privilege to be part of such a memorable event. Her Majesty gave a speech once she had spoken to the different organisations and then cut the cake. It was a great celebration. We felt honoured to be part of this event held at The Wavehouse in Newquay whom we have partnered with before and until recently had our premises on the same road as The Wavehouse.

We had lots of time to chat with familiar faces at the event as well as make new friendships as well. As we were waiting for Her Majesty to come through the doors into the main building where we were all standing a member of Cornwall Community Foundation quite fittingly said to our table how all of us in this room will remember this moment. It made me smile knowing that I would be sharing this precious moment with incredible members of our community and I know we at The Clothes Horse will treasure this memory.
